Join me on my #100daysofpractice journey, happening now!
5/100: more Perkinson. Trying to switch up a fingering because past Sophie picked something idiotic. #100days #100daysofpractice
3/100: this fall I've been trying to learn Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson's stunner of a solo suite, called "Lamentations." It's been on my desk for years but I never gave myself the time to actually get it into my fingers. The first movement is a fugue based on a blues form, and it's quite the finger twister. Left hand alone to get organized before figuring out the bow choreography.
2/100: Finding notes. I’m stepping in next week for an injured cellist on my friend’s recital of 17th century music, which means I need to remember what sixth comma at 415 feels like. It’s not there yet. I’m also having to borrow an instrument since my usual baroque cello is out right now, so there’s that added hurdle.
So I'm going to try this 100 days thing, SUPER late to the party. I can guarantee that they won't be totally consecutive because...well... dissertation. But I'm coming out of the fall feeling pretty unsettled, disorganized, and out of touch with myself. Maybe a bit of external discipline will solve all my problems? 1/100: coming back from 4 days at a conference without my cello, so I'll start the day with long tones. My metronome is this incredibly clunky midcentury thing, but I love using it because 1) it's not a phone, and 2) it was my mom's metronome in college. #100days #cello #practicemakesprogress #practicepracticepractice
Musicologists learning choreography to the Rite of Spring, definitely a highlight of my weekend! #ams19
Nick was the #johncage to my #mercecunningham tonight...#sorrynotsorry (Also, you can't read it in the photo, but his pumpkin says "tacet" so that's a joke that was present)
This afternoon, I'm giving a talk at the iconic @clevelandmuseumofart on sheet music and Ragtime dance culture with the honorable Daniel Goldmark as a part of the annual Cleveland Symposium!
@sufjanwallace ran 26.2 miles this morning and he'd never brag about it but I'm proud of him so I'll do it for him
